“My internship experience has definitely set me apart from many of my peers and classmates. It’s not everyday that you can just go to NZ and learn about their Emergency Management and Civil Defense system, as well as gain real work experience in the field.”
What is your favourite NZ memory?
Traveling on the bus for the Expedition portion. It was awesome being able to travel around NZ with some great friends and making memories along the way.
Biggest accomplishment since NE&I?
What are you doing now in your degree/career?
Currently doing some volunteer work and trying to find where I want to start my career.
What impact has your internship experience had on your personal and professional journeys?
My internship experience has definitely set me apart from many of my peers and classmates. It’s not everyday that you can just go to NZ and learn about their Emergency Management and Civil Defense system, as well as gain real work experience in the field.
What were the biggest highlights of your Massey National Expedition Experience?
Working for the NZ Fire Service, meeting some amazing Kiwis, and being able to travel to different regional emergency management offices.
What was the biggest challenge of working in NZ?
Probably trying to figure out how to fit into the New Zealand work culture. I was nervous about it at first, but it honestly is pretty easy since everyone was very accepting.
Why would you recommend NE&I to future students?
It is a once in a life time opportunity that helps you learn about Emergency Management in a whole different country and culture.
